That is strange, a RIP thread on a decent man for a change

Sure he was a nice man and many people loved him. R.I.P.

I though his books - Angela's Ashes and Tis were very poor.

Agreed(especially with regard to the books...sorry)..hope he had a peaceful passing!
When a man sits with a pretty girl for an hour, it seems like a minute. But let him sit on a hot stove for a minute and it's longer than any hour. That's relativity.

I thought Angelas Ashes was an astonishing book in many ways - the rest were only so-so

A nice tribute in the New York times:

    http://www.nytimes.com/2009/07/20/bo...nted=1&_r=1&hp

Contains a nice old quote which I think is quite fitting for the current times:

“I think there’s something about the Irish experience — that we had to have a sense of humor or die,”
    RIP
