This has been speculated for sometime and now looks as if it could very well come to pass.

Richard Boyd Barrett of the People Before Profit Alliance
The egotistical crackpot spoke to some journalist over beer during the "silly season" and we get a story from the IT

    Joe Higgins even is skeptical:

"Unless the conditions are correct it would be wrong to launch a new left party"
This story is nothing other than a degenerate, fringe lunatic's hope to take over Ireland's Left.

I don't even recognise the IT journalist - STEVEN CARROLL - is he some deputy-assistant-temporary-acting-locum-summer-student ? He certainly hadn't any reputation to lose by floating this balloon and he certainly ought to never gain any credibility either.

The senior IT political staff need to check their BlackBerries whilst on their 6 week "silly season" leave, else lunatic gibberings like this will end up published.

With RBB in the leadership and the SWP as the vanguard no doubt.

The SWP have been peddling this strategy in the UK for some time now. In England they were instrumental in Georgeous George Galloway's vainglorious effort, Respect. After initial limited success in London the Respect organisation has imploded and its elected public representatives have been shredded. In Scotland the SWP were key movers in the Scottish Socialist Party and now in Tommy "three-in-a-bed" Sheridan's Solidarity party. Same story here as well - organisations involving the SWP have fractured and have lost almost all of their public representatives.

Ireland is much less favourable to Trot organisations that Britain. The SWP are so desperate for electoral legitimacy that they will, however, pursue this already twice-failed policy here in Ireland and will inevitably meet with the same results.

Every time I hear the expression broad left I know that those behind it are of a narrow ideological background with little popular appeal. Given even Joe Higgin's scepticism can I presume that the inevitable split that Brendan Behan forecast has happened already?

Funny the way that this comes up every summer ......... couldn't be because there's no real news to report.
