Default The Sunday Independent - A Quality Newspaper?

I never get it but I stayed in a hotel last night. I breezed through it and there is much about Harris and O'Connor on the threads, as well as some decent stuff about Gene kerrigan who along with Alan Corcoran bucks the trend. But the main questions is just how sh*te a paper is when you read articles like this?

Ronald Quinlan is aiming high in the world of high journalism.

Had a look at the link, unbelievable rubbish - Cowen has 2 apts. in Dublin, one of which he uses himself. What relevance is this or the rest of the rubbish to anything. The Indo is to quality as RTE is to Public Service

I would love to know the journalistic credentials of these guys. Ronald Quinlan does not strike me as a particularly talented man.

Had a glance thru it yesterday-nothing worth reading except Kerrigan's article and the sections
    about the Irish language.
The magazine with it borders on soft porn. I have no problem with Rosanna Davidson doing
a nude photoshoot, but it belongs in Playboy or FHM, not a newspaper.

All you had to do was ring down to reception, they'd have sent up rolls of paper if you ran out

As articles go in the Sunday Independent, that is a harmless one, its a filler. What really makes the Sindo such a rag is the tripe written by Brendan O'Connor and Eoghan Harris etc on matters that are of real importance.

In the fairness to the article you quoted, it does have some substance, Farmleigh should be used as a residence for An Taoiseach.

Yep, but there's a perverse pleasure in rubbing Brendan o Connors nose in it ...so to speak.

Do any of the readers here remember what the "Sunday Independent" was like before
    Angus Fanning became editor?

Way back in the faraway beforetime? It seems like he's been there forever. Anyone know what year he took over?

It was 1985 I think he took over..from Michael Hand I think. There's an excellent discussion of
the Sunday Independent's politics in Emily O'Reilly's book on Veronica Guerin.
