Default 24th April is the Anniversary of the 1916 Rising

Should we commemorate it then instead of Easter?

Secular case: Easter is a religious occasion and the state should not base its activities on it.

Christian case: The use of Easter for the rising and Pearse's attempt to associate his blood sacrifice with Christ's is a blasphemy and should not be allowed.

Pluralist case: Putting the rising in a less prominent context recognises that it is not something everybody on the island believes to have been a good thing while still allowing the occasion to be marked.

Thought the GAA's contribution was very poor. I expected much better from them. Very amateurish. Certainley didn't come across well on the television.

Reaction on Twitter is generally extremely positive: https://twitter.com/hashtag/laochra?...fault&src=tren

... though one tweeter suggested the closing sequence
