In fairness, once Vogue Williams and Kim Kardashian announced they wouldn't be putting themselves forward, she was the obvious choice.

On a serious note, this is a total three ring freakshow circus now

It is astonishing that so many people are prepared to suspend their cognitive faculties where Trump is concerned. And a bit frightening.

'Trump was reported to have considered Ivanka for US ambassador to the United Nations. In March last year, she effectively acted, if briefly, as de facto interim secretary of state, after Rex Tillerson was fired. She also sat in for her father at a G20 summit in Hamburg in July 2017, to widespread consternation.' 'Ridiculous': report Ivanka Trump could lead World Bank meets scorn | Business | The Guardian

These reports are unconfirmed about such a nomination but are being carried by a number of mainstream media outlets. They smell like a leaked possibility to see what the reaction would be- if that is the case then the White House is currently more bonkers than previously suspected.

This is really through the looking glass stuff if later confirmed.

I doubt very much this appointment is likely as the World Bank changed its procedures for appointments in 2011 apparently in response to the automated appointment of US president's appointees.

The process is now supposed to be by open competition and on merit and Ivanka doesn't qualify in that regard to bring candidates a glass of water.

China is on the World Bank Board of Directors so it is very unlikely that they would wear any such attempt at blatant nepotism. She isn't even a member of the Party- or at least none of the Trump family are- at least publicly and if they were it would be more Russian than Chinese Party one suspects.

The mere fact that the White House have allowed her name anywhere near those mentioned on a potential short list is actually fairly alarming.

It speaks of a complete disconnect with reality.

Every now and then life takes a lurch into the surreal. I doubt the World Bank and its board and staff would appreciate the wisdom of Ivanka in the chair somehow.

The organisation would be an immediate laughing stock. They had some serious issues years back with a sex-pest who had to resign because of his sex-pestery and a bit of nepotism involved as well I seem to recall.

The World Bank top job is usually a US appointment and IMF is usually a European nomination by convention but the WB would be crippled in terms of credibility at all with some openly nepotistic appointment of a relative by Trump- and someone without the slightest shred of credibility themselves to be in that position.

Reminds me of the time Sarkozy tried to parachute his son into position as leader of La Defence local authority in Paris, a 100m turnover organisation in the city. The son was just out of University and had no work record to speak of. The Parisians kicked up seven kinds of hell at the idea and threatened to shut the city down.

Sarkozy backed off fast as French leaders tend to do when they get a serious warning from Parisians. It really is a staggering arrogance when people try to get way with blatant nepotism and the White House circus is an international joke at this stage with Trump out of options from a very small inner circle which increasingly looks like only near relatives.
