Default Dumbo Daly intervenes to help save Balllineen Post Office!

It is reported in the Examiner this morning that Ballineen PO may close after 160 years.

And local Junior Minster and all-round waster Jim Daly is kicking up a fuss about it!

Nowhere in the report is it mentioned that the closest Post Office to Ballineen is a mere 750 metres away in Ballineen's twin village of Enniskeane - and there's a footpath all the way between the two towns (joint population 700).

If An Post don't close down Ballineen PO then they really need their heads examined!

You can rest assured that whenever FF's hyphenated West-Cork TD and the gobsh1te Independent Mick Collins emerge from their respective scratchers, they'll be lepping onto the Save our PO" bandwagon as fast is their chubby little legs will carry them!

West Cork really is a beautiful place to live, but Jesus! our elected representatives really are the pits!

As long as the current electoral system remains in place this sort of sh1te will continue in all constituencies not just Cork South West.

A few months ago didn't An Post get a bailout of €30 million to keep hundreds of loss making Post Offices open.

Didn't realise they were that close to each other. Better case could be made for keeping post offices open elsewhere, especially some of the islands. Friend who used to work in post office told me years ago that part of the problem re viability of post offices was that social welfare recipients were not given the option of post office payments when applying for payment. They had to have a bank account. Not sure if that's the case still.

You clearly don't understand the dynamic between the twin villages. The Ballier lads hate the Enniskeeners. The last thing they would do is so much as spend tupence up in Enniskeen. Years ago there was a proposal to put a clock on the church spire in Enniskeen. They were not however to out a face on the Ballineen side of the church tower because the Enniskeen people won't give them the time of day. There is bitter enmity between both villages going back to the plantation and neither village can abide the other.

There is a story that an Enniskeen man married a Ballineen woman and they couldn't get a hotel to hold the reception nor any of their families to attend. In the end a Kerryman agreed to act as best man and a nun as bridesmaid.

750m is a 1.5km round trip for somebody who has challenges moving.

    Just saying.

You know they are a single GAA club ( the single greatest indicator of a places existence in rural Ireland) , the Mary’s, right?

So as well as knocking back your tale it highlights the silliness of the protests

Both places are “sraidbhailes” along the main road. I’m guessing most of their population live in the adjoining countryside .
