Default Trump condemns immigration from "s---hole" countries.

Fox News is reporting that President Trump has expressed regret about immigration from "s---hole countries" during talks on Thursday with lawmakers in the Oval Office.

Apparently, Haiti, El Salvador and African countries are the targets of his contempt. He'd rather have people from Norway.

I dont think he was making a racial point. Maybe a point that these source countries are forever in an economic and political mess.

On that basis, I'm not sure that many Norwegians will be rushing across the Atlantic to the USA.

He made a good point about how immigration from Europe should be allowed more. The 1965 Immigration Act effectively reweighted immigration to the US as coming from unstable parts of the world, with the consequent importation of the political trends of those countries into the US. Ireland may have been unstable for some of the 1800s, but when the Irish went to the US in the 1800s the welfare state was generations away so they had to work. But now if you are an illegal you are entitled to (depending on the state e.g. NY) to driving licenses - which can be abused to circumvent restrictions on voting rights using the Motor Voter Law.

Maybe the US should take the lead from Ireland on this. How many immigrants from these countries does Ireland take in?

"Certain Washington politicians choose to fight for foreign countries, but President Trump will always fight for the American people,” said Raj Shah, the principal deputy White House press secretary.

Interestingly, Mr Shah's parents were immigrants from India.

Yes but I doubt India is one of the countries Trump is talking about. They are not a terror supporting country unlike Pakistan.
