Default Youtube in a mess again after it was pointed out that there are over 2m child exploitation videos on their site.

seems like Youtube dropped the ball by fault or design even though creators have been pointing the dark corners of the site hidden in plain view. Anyway some major advertisers twigged that their adverts were being shown on videos where kids were tied up etc and where the comment section was infested by pedos.
so far youtube has only gone as far as demonitising them or closing comments on others but still means the vast majority of the videos are still live.

must do better youtube, its not plausible that a billion dollar company with google behind it didnt know what was happening, maybe it liked the revenue stream?

Over the past week, YouTube says it has “terminated more than 270 accounts and removed over 150,000 videos from our platform in the last week.” The company also “turned off comments on over 625,000 videos targeted by child predators.

“Finally, over the past week we removed ads from nearly 2 million videos and over 50,000 channels masquerading as family-friendly content,” the Google-owned company said in a statement to VICE News. “Content that endangers children is abhorrent and unacceptable to us.”

Adidas, Mars, Hewlett-Packard, and a host of other big brands have all paused advertising on YouTube in the wake of reports revealing their ads were showing up alongside sexually explicit comments under videos of children. The tools used to screen such comments, volunteer moderators told the BBC, haven’t been working properly for over a year, allowing between 50,000 and 100,000 “predatory” accounts to remain on YouTube.

Is this not a case of shooting the messenger? I don't claim to understand the technology but wonder if the policing you talk about is even possible given the numbers of videos posted every day/minute/hour etc. But do the police follow up and try to hunt down the people making these videos? I don't think it's that complicated, is it? I mean, every computer has a unique identifier. What's the difficulty?

interesting how youtube has declared war on so called 'hate speech'(anything that doesn't fit their ideology) but make no mention of this

YouTube comments are famous for being toxic at the best of times.

The videos in question are generally not pornographic or illegal but they are creepy as ************************. Google enforces its censorship through AI bots which can crawl through thousands of videos per second and delete/demonetize (so adverts are not shown) videos dealing with certain topics.

Problem is a lot of people who earn a living from making youtube are getting caught in the AI sweep and are losing a lot of money. People who talk about mental health issues, suicide prevention, sexual health, reporting on disasters, use curse words etc are having their videos flagged and demonetized while the big channels are left untouched because the AI bots do not enforce the rules equally.

Ultimately youtube is an advertising platform. They want advertising friendly content Disney like 'lifestyle' videos where people are basically given free products to promote. They don't want anything risky that might scare away advertisers.

Begs the question why the almighty do no evil G, knowing exactly every detail of the posters histories cant do something useful and help the police stamp out perverted behavior and protect children.

Its not an advertising subject... why aren't they focusing on this as a primary concern?

I know some well known creators had to start campaigns to get channels taken down, some of these channels were getting millions of views so they must have been on Youtube's radar as they were bringing in some major bucks. They havnt treated their decent creators very well. I think they want to become a TV station which is exactly the opposite of what its users and creators want. Also the legacy media will do all they can to purge Youtube on independent content because its compeition

There isnt child abuse in the videos from what Ive heard in the news. The problem is that paedophiles are reportedly making sexual comments about normal videos of children.

    What?

YouTube can ban or chose not to hosts whatever they want. Its a private site. They are under no obligation to host anything

This is a move to normalise censorship, we are seeing it all across social media with Facebook and Google targeting political sites and doing so in full collaboration with governments and intelligence agencies. The populations of the west are the target of these, using the best cover excuses they can muster, as part of austerity and the drive to war.

These corporate fascists shouldn't be in charge of centralised control of this technology in the first place.

Bullsh1t. They are private entities who are perfectly entitled to enforce pre agreed rules and standards.

The notion of paedophiles having a right to organise around innocent vidoes of children is contemptible.
