Default Democracy in Crisis? The Tour.

John Waters, Fr. Marcel G., Declan Ganley and a number of other speakers will address the nature of democracy, the meaning of our constitution in relation to fundamental rights, the responsibility of citizens, the importance of preserving freedom and the integrity of our national consensus.

We don't need to spend good hard earned cash to be told Democracy is in crisis.
The cover up of scandal after scandal has left us all in a State of Dictatorship.

Good luck to the lads, anyway. They seem a very caring team - unless, of course, that mysterious "Fr Marcel G" is the notorious gay-hating freak, Fr, Marcel Guarnizo.

Rehearsals would make better viewing. Sort of like the rehearsals for US "wrestling".

Yerman, Kommunist - a Corkwegian, and frequent OP in the "Events" forum might be into this lot.

The lineup sounds like the four whoresmen of the cathpocalypse.
History will record with the greatest astonishment that those who had the most to lose did the least to prevent its happening.

Part of the war on democratic rights is an attack on diversity of opinion/free speech. Fair play to Senator David Norris for his strident attack on censorship of people like Kevin Myers in Seanad Eireann as reported by Oireachtas Report. He made the point that there has to be room for dissenting opinions. Senator Michael McDowell agreed.

Forms of government are means to the end of securing the common good. They are not ends in themselves and the wonderful Pope Leo XIII condemned the concept of making democracy an end in itself labelling it "Americanism". We would be much better off with a decent military dictator such as Thomas Sankara or Col Ghaddafi than with Leo gay socks. I hope they will not be making out that democracy is a good in and of itself.

While I agree that serving the common good should be the end, democracy is the best means for determining what that is.

Even with superhuman good will (an impossibility) dictators simply can't know what the common good is.
