Default Right wing inward looking NZ government bans foreigners buying houses.

    https://www.rte.ie/news/2017/1031/916374-new-zealand/

New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern has said a ban on foreigners buying existing homes would begin in early 2018, but the restrictions would not apply to Australians.

Pretending it's about NZ homeless crisis(much worse than Ireland) but it's really just old fashioned racism. NZ settlers tend to panic if an Asian or Irish family moves into their neighborhood as it lowers the prices due to the settlers not wanting to live beside foreigners or natives for that matter.

They will continue of course to beg foreigners to come work in their country but then tell them they can't buy a home.

Immigrant doctors are filling more than half the new positions in New Zealand hospitals, prompting warnings that the medical system is being "propped up" by doctors who may not be suited to New Zealand's health needs.

Thank God we don't have a right wing government in this country to do something as backward and inward looking as this.

I hope EU law ensures we can't do this. Anybody know?

A brilliant solution to a housing crisis. We should do the same.

I thought this legislation specifically targeted overseas organisations/companies buying up houses. Not nationals who live in the country can buy property. Which seems fair to me.

House prices have doubled in some parts of New Zealand in the last few years. A lot of that is down to foreign investors. You may be aware that there is a trend among the very rich to buy in that country, as described in the link below. The Government has to do something.

Not that our scumbag government would do anything similar. Varadkar is some piece of work. He told Macron that there'd be no discussion on a common tax policy in the EU because Ireland is soverign, and then he says that he can't even collect the full 12.5 percent tax rate on MNCs because they wouldn't like it! So we're not soverign at all. Our social policy is dictated by overseas corporations.
