Default Tipperary Peace Convention to make award to Syria White Helmets

    Tipperary Peace Convention | ABOUT

    BREAKING NEWS
The Syria Civil Defence White Helmets are to receive the 2016 Tipperary (Ireland) International Peace Award. The announcement was made today by Tipperary Peace Convention through its Hon. Secretary, Mr. Martin Quinn.
Today’s announcement will focus international attention on the Syrian crisis and supports those who are risking their lives to save others. The White Helmets’ selection is a testament to the enormous bravery and courage shown by these ordinary Syrians who have saved upwards on 100,000 people, and the 192 volunteers who have paid the ultimate price with their lives.
Extraordinary decision. Martin Quinn was interviewed on Morning Ireland just now. He just waffled in a *very* pompous tone when the female interviewer pointed out that the WH themselves have acknowledged past links with Islamic terrorists.

Quite a few negative comments on their FB page.

Default Tipperary Peace Convention to make award to Syria White Helmets

This is absolutely farcical. It seems like they are deliberately courting controversy by awarding a prize to a notoriously compromised organisation with a murky background that has been identified countless times cooperating with jihadists and Islamic extremism in Syria.

It seems like a calculated publicity stunt to give attention to an irrelevant prize ceremony that most people in Ireland never mind anywhere else haven't even heard of nor give a fiddlers about.

If their spokesman on the radio this morning is anything to go by then you can guess at the type of gormless fools they have adjudicating for their prize.

RTE interviewer feeling obliged to push a pro-Assad pro-Putin line isn't unusual in their attempt to provide balance.
"What Michael Collins accepted in '22,De Valera accepted in'27 and Gerry Adams accepted in '98.Sooner or later they all come around to accepting the Treaty"

Yet another slush fund for the egos of the 'great and the good' of Irish society no doubt. I can't say I'm surprised about the way government flitters away cash that could be better spent.
