Default Jaysus Christ! Blasphemy Referendum Announced!

There has finally been an announcement to remove the blasphemy antiquity from our Constitution.

It’s official: We’ll have a referendum to remove blasphemy from the Constitution

    Article 40 currently reads:

The publication or utterance of blasphemous, seditious, or indecent matter is an offence which shall be punishable in accordance with law.
As a firm believer in offence being taken rather than given, I am delighted with this announcement and cannot wait to banish it from a supposed republican constitution.

The law defines blasphemy as publishing or saying something “grossly abusive or insulting in relation to matter held sacred by any religion, thereby causing outrage among a substantial number of the adherents of that religion.”

Aodhán probably thinks this will be all about Catholicism. But the long game is Islam.

Just as long as it's a Super Referendum Day. Not sure €17 million for this alone is good value for money.

We do not say that a man who takes no interest in politics is a man who minds his own business; we say that he has no business here at all.

It shouldn't be in the constitution. Remove it but keep the law.

I'm hoping the vote will be to make blasphemy mandatory.
