Here I thought I'd set the ball rolling on high quality science fiction books that have a significant political element, as such books that could be recommended to a political theory student.
Two to start with
- The Star Fraction by Ken MacLeod This really is a book brimming full of political philosophy. The author's sympathies are with the libertarian left though he does a damn fine job of expounding a polycentric society whereby different "nations" overlap in the same geographic space.
- Peace on Earth by Stanislaw Lem This is perhaps more for students of Kissinger and International Relations but is a satire on military aggression and the ludicrous nature of competing nation states
So what about you, did any Sci-Fi books awaken you and enrich you politically ?
