Default Presidential interference in criminal justice system?

President is defending his wife's decision to visit the jailed anti-war activist.

Áras an Uachtaráin confirmed that Mrs. Sabina Higgins visited Ms. D'Arcy in Limerick Prison over the weekend, less than a week after she was jailed.
Michael D. Higgins says his wife was visiting a long standing friend in a personal and private capacity.

Newstalk - FF questions Gilmore comments over jailed peace activist Margaretta D'Arcy

Is it appropriate for the wife of the President to visit a criminal in prison? The nature of the Presidency places a responsibility on the President not to be perceived as interfering in judicial and legislative matters.

Does President Higgins understand the importance of his office?

Can you quote the part of the constitution that gives an official role to the spouse of the President and prevents him/her from visiting friends, whether in prison or not?

Should the spouse of the President cease having a personal life?

Does visiting a friend in prison amount to 'interfering in judicial and legislative matters'?
We do not say that a man who takes no interest in politics is a man who minds his own business; we say that he has no business here at all.

Did she spring yer one out of jail? Don't think so. Hence the thread is utter garbage and is based on a mad premise, has no validity and is not worthy of our attention.
In what way did she interfere in the justice system? She made no comment whatever on the matter. She visited a friend in jail.

We've all been there. Well, not me as such but most of the posters here probably have been. Visited or being visited.
    Go away.

She can visit who she likes in prison.
It was private and personal visit to a frail elderly peace activist, who is a longtime friend of hers.

She can visit who she likes. His wife going to mcdonalds does not mean he's using his office against burgerking.
I'm living in America, and in America, you're on your own. America's not a country. It's just a business. Now f***ing pay me.

She is in state (ie taxpayer funded) housing. Is she going to pay her own way when she visits the U.K.?

This again. She lives with her husband who is an office holder.

She is not an office holder. She has the right to a private life, which includes visiting a friend if she sees fit.

I despise those denizens of that crusty camp at Shannon , but IMO this is a non event.
The auld wan is a long standing friend apparently, so let's just leave it at that.
