Default First Female Church Leader in Ireland

Rev Dr Heather Morris will be installed as the President of the Methodist Church in Ireland on 12th June. How refreshing to have a young, articulate, working mother as leader of one of the four main Christian Churches in Ireland. Dr Morris gave her first interview to RTE this morning (here http://podcast.rasset.ie/podcasts/au...04827_232_.mp3) and is clearly going to be open to discussing quite controversial issues as she showed in her first press conference (here Video: Methodist president speaks on abortion and assisted suicide - Regional - Belfast Newsletter). Hopefully we will hear more from Dr Morris, rather than the usual ageing men, over the next 12 months when faith communities are invited to discuss these matters in the media.

Profile from the Methodist Church website
    Heather Morris

Heather Morris trained as a Speech Therapist before offering for the Methodist ministry in 1987. She served in Belfast Central Mission and Dundonald before being appointed to develop the new role of Director of Ministry at Edgehill in 2004. A specialist in Pastoral Theology, with a strong empathy for people, Heather has stressed the importance of professional development for ministers. She brings to the role of President, a quick mind and a refreshing openness to God’s purposes. She and Neil live in Belfast with sons, Peter and David.

Of the very little interaction and experience I have had with the Methodist Church, it seems like a very good organisation.
The world is a very puzzling place. If you're not willing to be puzzled, you just become a replica of someone else's mind.

Theology, from the University of Edinburgh I believe, which seems like an appropriate academic discipline for somebody of her position as the Director of Ministry of a theological college. Although I was speaking to a Methodist minister some time ago whose doctorate was in atomic physics if that's more your cup of tea.

Well it's no surprise she hasn't become a female Church leader in the Roman Catholic Church.
I have closed down this account, I am now The Rahenyite.

    Good Luck.

Nice to see progress even if from the ranks of the self deluded.
