Default Oireachtas Health Committee on Draft Abortion Legislation

The Master of the Rotunda raising some very significant ethical issues over the suicide clause in the proposed legislation. “Our psychiatric colleagues tells us that there is no evidence that abortion is a treatment.” The inclusion of suicide grounds in the legislation may increase the demand for abortion in Ireland, said Dr Coulter-Smyth.

Dr Coulter-Smyth says he and his colleagues are concerned that an unintentional consequence of this legislation would be an increased demand for abortion.

Seanad Éireann, Houses of the Oireachtas

Minister Reilly getting flack for leaving the hearings without answering any questions.

At 12 weeks the “clump of cells” toes curl, her mouth makes sucking movements, she has a human face and if you prod the tummy she will move in response

A summary might be a good idea.

Increased demand? Nonsense, the demand already exists, and is met by a trip to London.

Merging into another "A" thread might be an Idea too...

But, no, Fresh from the kerb stones in Ballinteer , full of zeal, another thread is called for... The Devil can cite scripture, the lobbyist can cite publications, irrespective of their robustness to peer review.

Nevertheless, this has been raised by the Master of the Rotunda.

Ya - he's stated the bloody obvious. And I'm not sure if you noticed that he said an increase in demand, he did not say an increase in the number of abortions.

19 hospitals in Ireland that treat pregnant women and two of the three obstetricians today in the hearing are from the same hospital. Both disagreeing with the third obstetrician. Lopsided?

If there are any mods around would you consider merging this thread with one of the many existing abortion threads. We can't be having a new thread opened for every utterance of every participant in the ongoing debate. The site is already looking like Abortion.ie!
