Default This day 70 years ago: 19 April 1943 - the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising

Warsaw Ghetto Uprising: 70th anniversary marked in Poland
Some of the last survivors of the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising gathered in the Polish capital to commemorate the 70th anniversary one of the most desperate acts of defiance to German occupation and the slaughter of Polish Jews.

They left it too late to strike IMO

If ever there was a case of 'too little too late' this was it

But at least they went down fighting
If you can convince a People to engage in the mass elimination of their own offspring - you can probably get them to do anything...http://irelandinhistory.blogspot.ie/

    Too early, surely?

Edit- sorry, the ghetto uprising, not the city uprising - the latter was too early...

Those fighting in the Warsaw Ghetto had good reason to hate the Nazis. The hatred helped them fight so bravely.

You might fear that this and all the hatred arising from WW2 would then poison us for years. But we have been fortunate that most of the poison has been drained away. Especial thanks should go to the Jewish people, the European Community and people like Willy Brandt - Warschauer Kniefall - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Lets not forget the heroic Soviets who stopped their tanks outside Warsaw and allowed the Nazis finish off the Ghettos. Gilmore and his like forgot that when they were supporting the Workers Party love affair with the USSR

The Warsaw Ghetto Uprising was a socialist and communist organised up-rising, in case you didn't know.

I accept everyting you say and have posted but the actions of the USSR right from the Molotov Ribbontropp Agreement, Katyn Wood massacres, division of Berlin, Iron Curtain, Hungarian and Czechoslovakian interference are completely unjustified and how so many of the so called Irish Left supported the USSR including Tomas MacGiolla, Sean Garland, Gilmore, De Rossa and Rabbitte supported them remains a mystery to me. I can imagine the uproar if Kenny and the Blueshirt scum highlighted their support of Franco, Peron, Le Man and Pinochet

    News to me

    - I hope this is not along the same lines as SF claiming they had something to do with the Dublin 1913 Lockout?
