    Default Excellent free history app.

Excellent and free (for the next two weeks) app from the Irish Times/National Museum - Irish EU Presidency, EU Presidency : 100objects

It's a history of Ireland in 100 objects and well worth getting. Would also be much appreciated by the diaspora especially this weekend. Might make them feel a little homesick but nostalgia isn't what it used to be.
Cry your hardest now, it opens the lungs, washes the countenance, exercises the eyes and softens down the temper. So cry away.

Shame they produced a video to mark a history of Irish culture with annoying soundtrack of trendy guitars-and-all 'Irish trad' music. What precisely is wrong with actual trad music?

Mix-up with Finland items perhaps? Is the AK-47 black and stamped with "Sako"?

Just downloaded it myself. It's nice and simple on the iPhone, but where it really comes into its own is the iPad version, which is beautifully laid out. It's Fintan O'Toole's personal selection, and one can quibble with some of the items, particularly the more recent ones (in the long run will Anglo Irish Bank really be considered that significant?), but it's interesting and informative. Free until the end of the month.

Apparently, my Android device isn't compatible. Is this 2013?

It is a good app and very interesting. The premise is taken - acknowledged, to be fair, by Fintan O'Toole - from the excellent BBC Radio 4 series, "A History of the World in 100 Objects". The episodes can be listened to here: BBC - A History of the World - Programmes
