Default GREEN SHOOTS - 280 jobs to go in 2yrs.

Former Schering-Plough company (since 1964) now MSD to close in Rathdrum in 2 years time, thats 280 jobs. It will be interesting to see the reason for the closure if we are now supposed to be more competitive etc but looks like the green shoots in the Garden of Ireland are wilting. MSD Ireland will continue to employ about 2,000 people.

MSD employs 2,300 people directly in Ireland and provides an additional 9,000 indirect jobs through the services we use.

In the last four decades the company has invested over €2.2bn in Ireland. MSD is one of Ireland's leading exporters and contributes significantly towards making the pharmaceutical industry the country’s leading export sector. MSD is a member of Guaranteed Irish and manufactures and packages many of its leading products for the world market in Ireland.

That would be due to prevailing conditions! Now if we were to get those 20,000 jobs each year as promised in Enda's 5 point plan we might be slightly more optimistic.

100,000 new jobs net after 5 years was the promise.
    That's 20,000 a year net.

How are we doing on that score FG fanboys?

I didn't see anything in the OP that indicated concern about the people losing their jobs. Anyway companies shed jobs all the time, for all sorts of reasons - many of which may have nothing to do with the overall state of the economy.

Hard to say, given that there's still 3 years to go, surely?
