Thread: Grillo's Five Star movement. A model for Ireland?

Default Grillo's Five Star movement. A model for Ireland?

Just looking at the Italian election and the huge surge in support for the previously non-political entertainer Beppe Grillo and his Five Star movement. Is this a model of the the people who are disenchanted with the current political parties and want to improve the lot of everyone? A commitment not to enter a coalition but to support a minority government on a case by case basis would surely be better than the Tweedle Dum and Tweedle Dumber options that are our only options.

I'd vote for Tommy Tiernan-seriously. I wouldn't vote for Des Bishop though.

We get a comedian to start a directionless movement? Are you applying for the job?

I think it's possible that 2016 represents one of the best opportunities thus far in the history of the State to put a real reform movement into the Dail in some strength. Not to go into government, not to go into coalition, but to try to hold the balance of power and push a reform agenda. If we wouldn't do it on the 100th anniversary of the Rising, when would we ever do it?

Grillo is a populist idiot telling other idiots what they want to hear. We have enough of that type of politician in this country already.

Because Irish people don't want change. They want the same old, the same old, time and time again.

Do we have a larger-than-life showman? What about Louis Walsh or Michael O'Leary?

There's always room for a few more as far as i can see. Plenty of posters here for a start assuming any of them can find their way to a polling station. Which is debateable.
