According to the Examiner Eamon Gilmore wishes to push the Labour conference back from its planned time in September to April 2014 which according to party rules is the latest date it can be held. According to the Examiner's political correspondent, Shaun Connolly, Gilmore wants to push the budget back so that delegates will not be bound to anti-austerity pledges in the run up to October's Budget. Labour's ruling body will make the decision with regard to the campaign next month.
The article also notes that Gilmore is due to face more opposition in the Dáil after the four Labour TDs who quit the whip are due to get more speaking time after a meeting with the Ceann Comhairle.
