Default Calls Grow For Businessman & Fianna Fáil Politican To Resign..

Éirígí, IRSP, Sinn Féin, AFA, and a number of Independent Cllrs, including Cieran Perry, Christy Burke & Thomas Pringle, have called on Sean McEniff, Fianna Fáil and Cllr Eugene Dolan of Fine Gael to resign from Donegal County Council.

Thomas Pringle has condemned the attack, saying:

“Donegal County Council bought the house for a Traveller family and local councillors Seán McEniff and Eugene Dolan made racist statements about the decision, and last night the house was burned…The council will now have to repair the house before they can allocate it to the family and this will just add extra costs for the council. It would have been better for the local councillors to have taken a constructive approach, working towards ensuring that the family received all the support they required and work with the community to make sure that there was a smooth transition for the family”.

He went on to say: “Luckily there were no injuries last night but will it take someone to be seriously hurt before these councillors take responsibility for their words and actions?”

Éirígí Dublin City Councillor Louise Minihan said, “We are not living in Alabama in the 1950s, but it is clear some people wish we were. Cllr McEniff’s views must be clearly rejected by all decent public representatives. It is little wonder politicians are held in low esteem by the public if a small few pander to ignorant racism and prejudice in this way.”

AFA spokesperson Joanne Tobin said: "Hate Speech leads to Hate Acts."

To dislike someone, and to actually Hate someone are two vastly different things.. But shurely this is a step too far? It follows on from Fine Gaels Darren Scullys comments about The Africans , not so long ago, and it's not the first time a Travellers house has been burned to the ground..

If Eirgi say it it must be true. Weren't AFA the people who picketed Michael McDowell on a visit to the North years ago over his asylum policy?

I'm not a member of Eirigi, SF, IRSP or the AFA.. I'm not quite sure if the AFA picketed Michael McDowell on a visit to the North years ago, over his asylum policy..

It hardly justifys at any level burning the house to the ground, does it? The Green Party condemned the last Racist Attack against Travellers when another house was burned to the ground in KilKenny.. So you can add them to the list of Anti-Racists..

Green Party councillor Malcolm Noonan noted:

“This is clearly a racist attack, and is being fuelled by scaremongering within local communities. It was only a matter of time before an incident like this occurred. Racism towards travellers permeates every facet of our society and we have councillors interfering with the work of our housing staff in allocating houses to traveller families.”

    04 July 2009 Tipperary..

The county council-owned property was at the centre of major controversy and a legal battle after local residents in the lakeside town objected to a local Traveller family moving into the home.
