Tom Lenihan son of late Brian Lenihan has been elected as president of the Trinity College Dublin Students Union. it's not clear where he stands in the politically spectrum yet but the report claims he is not a member of Fianna Fail.

The report didn't use the word "yet" at all. Combined to an opinion free OP (written in the manner of a 10 year old truant), you're now too lazy to even quote the article correctly? A new high for you.

He made the issue of student mental health his number one priority – releasing a video in which he spoke of his own personal experience of fighting depression. "I've had depression since I was 13 and there have been times when I've lost the battle. But when you've friends, you can overcome it. Just never give up," he told fellow students.
Seems a good, important stump issue and a positive message for students everywhere.

It's a sad state of affair that a familiar name will do more for you in Irish politics than new ideas and policies. This country has been (mis-)ruled) by political clique since its inception and I would have though that the current recession was the perfect opportunity to get rid of them all forever.

It was all Lenihans' fault. (to borrow from the Dithering Socialist of Drumcondra..)
Coveney's ambition is the be Ireland's next EU Commissar and Ireland will pay a price as he builds his CV to position himself sufficiently loyal to the nEU empire.

Tom Lenihan (21) ran a colourful and humorous campaign by dressing up in a tiger suit while jogging down Grafton Street, doing press-ups on the Luas and falling off a treadmill machine.

But he made the issue of student mental health his number one priority – releasing a video in which he spoke of his own personal experience of fighting depression.
The third-year law and business student made no reference during the campaign to his father, who died in 2011 after battling pancreatic cancer.

"He had a fantastic campaign because he used humour and hype to drive his campaign – and then he was able to discuss his policies and his ideas," he said.

But he also pledged to install a student kitchen so they could heat up meals on campus rather than having to buy expensive meals.
So he's got new ideas, new policies and made no reference to his father in any way during the campaign. LET'S GET HIM!

What is really incredible is that Michael Martin is still in politics with an aspiration to be Taoiseach!

Just shows you that there are still people out there who think we have had not had enough of these stupid political dynasties.

One would have assumed that the "brand name" of a Lenihan or a Cowen would have had a a toxic quantity to it. But instead we have a Cowen in the Dail, and the Lenihans have not given up yet.

Well, that proves that Trinners is a joke, when there are idiots who think that Irish politics now needs yet another Lenihan.

Rather than give out about dynasties who is putting forward stronger candidates? A good campaign of humour and hype wins over the students of one of the elite colleges and proves to me that the Irish political pattern is still alive and well. Part of it is universal: if you're a likable person you will get votes and then you can get power. What happens after that?
