    Default New European Budget

It looks like a deal has been done and a new budget will be struck today/this weekend.

It might be interesting to have a rolling news thread on this, especially as it impacts on Ireland.

Let's start with a bit of not very good news.

    RTÉ News ‏@rtenews

EU peace programme budget for Northern Ireland has been reduced from €225 million in the initial draft to €150 million. #eubudget

I wonder will this have much of an impact on jobs up north?

There was some reference to the Southern countries including France campagining hard for the agri component not to be touched so that should help Ireland.

Will €75 million make a huge difference? Any idea of how much Ireland's going to get from the 'jobs' fund? If we get a big enough slice of that pie, it could make a real difference to unemployment rates.

Probably not, but psychologically a 33% cut looks bad. Maybe it should be seen as a sign of 'normalisation'?

Judging by recent events the less money thrown at the "Gathering" up north the better. How much of the €75million saving is going back into the ROI coffers.
