Default Is it time to close the Dail Bar?

Is it time to close the Dail Bar, some still photos from the packed Dail Bar last, on here and on other sites.

Is this the image we want people to see from our legislature when in emergency session discussing the financial future of not only now, but given the nature of what was being discussed, of future generations also.

We then had the spectacle of a raucous Dail, with TD's from Fine Gael and Labour quite obviously steamed up, heckling Pearse Doherty when he was making his 15 minute contribution.

At one stage he actually turned and addressed the hecklers telling them to "go back to the bar"

Surely its time to close this facility at what is supposed to be a place of work.

    Yes.

Maybe someone could bring a bill forward for that..... it's an absolute disgrace. There was one TD I saw that was visibly drunk when he was heckling Doherty.

Des Bishop has a new programme starting tonight about Ireland and booze.

Under the Influence New series. The comedian explores Ireland's relationship with alcohol and other addictive commodities, revealing how he has been tee-total since the age of 19. He asks if the general public are in denial about the issue, if there is such a thing as an addictive personality and investigates what part society plays in encouraging excessive behaviour.

Dutch courage is the only kind of courage most of the government will ever know, take that away and all that is left is a spineless pile of jelly on the floor of the Dáil.

Regarded as gross misconduct in most work places.

    Yes.

In no other place of work is it acceptable to be actively drinking. In most jobs even having a hangover would be considered very bad form let alone boozing when important work is supposed to be happening.

They'll just tip over to Buswells. They certainly should no longer be able to run tabs in it.

I wouldn't close the dail bar permanently but It certainly should have been closed the whole day yesterday given the legislation that was about to be rammed through the dail.
