The western powers often preach about "human rights" and use it as a justification for liberal interventions and various wars. We saw how the west enthusiastically bombed Libya on grounds on liberal intervention to help over throw the Gaddaffi regime. But Gaddaffi was a saint in comparrison to the savages who rule Saudi Arabia. Saudi Arabia is an appalling theocracy with some of the worst human right abuses on earth. The Islamic Republic of Iran at least allow women to drive and walk the streets without a burkha where as in Saudi Arabia women can be thrown in jail for driving a vehicle.
So why does Saudi Arabia get a free pass when it comes to all these enthusiasts for "liberal intervention" and "human rights"? Is it so simple that Saudi Arabia is a loyal ally of the west who helps control global oil prices in partnerships with the US? Why is it that the regimes the west is helping to overthrow in the middle east are actually the most secular and progressive ones while the salafist savages in Saudi Arabia and Qatar are accomodated so willingly? Collaboration between the west and islamist funamentalists is nothing knew. We all remember how the west cosied up to Pakistan in the Cold war and armed the troglodytes in Afghanistan who fought against the People's Democractic Party of Afghanistan and their Soviet allies.
Here's an article I read today which angered me.
