    Default Concern run for Ethiopia

I heard on the radio today an ad for a charity run in Ethiopia that is being organised by Concern. Could someone enlighten me why people have to go over there to do a run for charity when it could be done here and the cost of the airfares could be given to the charity. I just do not understand these things at all.

Its something that I never fully understood myself either, to be honest. But there are a lot of misconceptions about how to effectively give to charity, and this one isn't the worst, its just inefficient.

Very interesting article about misguided charity here. (Yes, its Cracked, but its sources are good!)

Anyway the Kenyans are much better runners, so surely they should do it.

As long as they're paying for their own flights/expenses then ok. Is this the case here?

Half the money should be spent on contraception.

I just tell them I'm not concerned at all. That always makes them stop and think: they don't quite stop smiling though.

It's a chance to have a holiday, catch a bit of poverty porn and boost your credentials as a 'right-on' person.

    That's what I would say were I a cynic.

It's the constant fidgeting on their tippy toes and stupid woolie jumpers and beanie hats that get me.
