Thread: Six thousand more added to the live register in January

Default Six thousand more added to the live register in January

    http://www.cso.ie/en/media/csoie/rel...eg_jan2013.pdf

So it now looks like the December numbers were the false dawn that many thought and six thousand more are added to the live register. When you add the thousands emigrating every month, it's clear that any jobs initiative the government had, has failed miserably.
Thank you for the six thousand likes.

Well done, TwoSeats. Ignore the seasonally adjusted figures. You utter clown.

You're a sad, pathetic loser, TwoSeats. And that's being polite.

There was a jobs initiative? Missed that totally!

Lots of angry people here jumping up and down over a 900 drop but so what, how many people are actually in work, how many emigrated, how many got shoved onto various schemes to get them off the LR and so on? These posters are making themselves look rather dim and somewhat partisan, to put it politely.

Have you no manners? That is hardly the most intelligent or enlightened way to conduct a debate.

Hmm. One month tells us all we need to know about the whole of the rest of the year.

Is it possible to get at the truth or are we at the mercy of spin doctors of all sorts and their attendant arselickers?

What I don't understand is that Burton is planning to abolish a plethora of back to work initiatives which are said to cost the taxpayer €1bn because they are failing in their objective, but yet she's increasing the number of places on CE and TUS which costs Johnny the taxpayer €470m a year, while at the same time as saying that these intiatives should only be used as a last resort. Why on earth would you continue to pump €470m in to two intiatives that only have a 46% success rate in terms of getting participants back in to f/t paid employment?

She's also increasing the numbers on Jobsbridge in addition to creating a whole new intiative whereby the unemployed will undertake placements on a social employment initiative with local authorities. She also seems to think that BTEA locks people in to a life on the dole. Now, here I was thinking that going back to college increases the employability and opportunities for the jobless - evidently not! So what's her answer more stupid courses on momentum and through FAS and how much are companies like CPL getting paid by the Dept to provide these short-term courses under momentum which are for a max of six months - three months of which are work placements? Doesn't that beg the question, which labour market initiatives are actually failing in their objective and why are we continuing to pump money in to initiatives that simply don't work?
