Gardai need to shoot before they shout a warning to win a Gunfight!
Our Gardai are under standing orders to shout a warning before using firearms. The time it takes to shout "Armed Gardai put down your gun (please)" would give an armed opponent enough time to shoot the garda a number of times before the warning is completed.
At an average speaking rate of 120 words a minute the warning would take two to three seconds to issue. That is an awful handicap for a Garda in a gun fight!
Gardai must be given much more latitude in using firearms. Essentially they must be allowed to shoot people who are visibly caring firearms in public places on sight!
Members of the public carrying guns in public places should carry them in gun cases if they are carrying them to a gun dealer or to a hunting field, target range etc.
The Minister should amend the law to allow them shoot without warning when they consider their lives in danger!
