Default British Foreign Office includes Israel on list of 28 countries 'of concern'.

Uh oh, its an Israel thread!

The BFO has included Israel on a list of 28 countries of concern regarding human rights and democracy, specifically in relation to its treatment of Palestinians.

(as an aside, read the readers comments - always good craic).

    Is this report significant?

It is in relation to the fact that its further sign that Israel is becoming ever so gradually diplomatically isolated - and the reason for this is its attitude to the two state solution, not some anti-semitic nonsense the usual suspects will try to dress it up as.

Israel can try to solve the Palestinian issue, or it can decide to become an international pariah, with its only unconditional ally being the US (a good one tio have, granted), and even that is a bit slippy, what with Obama not exactly enamoured with Bibi and/or his policies.

This should be a cause of concern for Israel. The UK has been a staunch ally. The usual right wing blimpish comments in the JP show the air of unreaity that pervades the Israeli right. They press on pigheadedly not seeming to notice the growing diplomatic isolation. Having the US as an ally is useful but sooner or later a President will arrive who doesn't give two hoots about Israel.

I looked at the full 28 and it isn't exactly a group of countries that Israel would want to be put with. At that it does include other democraies or at least electoral democraies (rather than Liberal Democries) Columbia and Iraq.

Can you post a link to full list please.
In August 2012 Hamas MP and Deputy Speaker Ahmad Bahr appeared on Hamas' Al-Aqsa TV and demanded all Muslims to annihilate the Jews.

I'm sure you can appreciate that this list does not give each country an equal weighting of human rights concerns - that is, the BFO don't rate Israel as big an offender as, say, Iran.

    Of course.

I imagine there is previous lists and I imagine Israel was not on it previously hence the news story, while I presume Iran etc. were.
