Thread: Google removes Iona Institute account from YouTube

  1. #1

Default Google removes Iona Institute account from YouTube

Iona account removed from YouTube - The Irish Times - Tue, Jan 22, 2013

Google has refused to explain why it has closed the YouTube account of the Iona Institute.

The account of the conservative Catholic think tank was closed today 'due to repeated or severe violations of our terms of service'.

When Google spokeswoman was asked what the 'repeated violations' were she would not comment ?'n an individual account' referring instead to YouTube's community guidelines.
Will there be a march on the Google offices?
I have no money, but I love my life.

I'm pro-choice and pro-gay marriage, but this smacks of the sort of censorship that Google is supposed to be against.

Youtube allows any old crap to be put up on its servers, so it's strange to see that they've banned this group

This smacks of censorship, in a big way.

The Iona Institute may be (errrm) pretty passionate, but they are intelligent and pretty moderate compared to most groups who use Youtube for various reasons.

This is bizarre, methinks the Iona folk should lawyer up and start action.

They're well resourced, so you can be sure they're doing that as we speak.

I don't know what the Youtube terms of use are, but it's a private site, presumably they can ban who they like.

This smacks of overly-censorious 'librul' googlers in the Dublin office not favouring free speech for social conservatives. That would be fair enough if they applied that policy across the board, but loads of ultra-offensive and disgusting content is allowed on that site, including footage of killings. So what's wrong with the Iona Institute? Did they breach the no-nipple rule???

No doubt Iona are going to milk this for everything it's not worth.
