Default Next budget will be in October according to TV3

Looks like the EU "countries" will need to report their budgets to the EU for approval in Oct. Anyone starting to feel like they have joined an Empire? can we just abolish the government at this stage and let the EU appoint a Protector who can be located in The Park.

WOW! TV3 have learned about something that has been in the pipeline since about 2010.

It is actually a useful move. A preliminary budget will be published in October with budgetary projections, main measures etc. This will be put into the public domain before the final budget is signed off in December.

At present we have the mad situation where the budget is treated as a state secret and is announced as a fait-de-complete in 45 minutes and many of the measures voted through that night or within a few days.

It is part of the EU's Two-Pack. There is no loss of power, just a change of timing.

Here is a draft of one of the regulations in the Two-Pack. It has not entered force yet because it has not been passed by the EU Parliament which is in dispute with the EU Commission.

Article 3 is the relevant piece here.

    Article 3
    Common Budgetary Timeline

    1. Member States shall make public annually their medium-term fiscal plans in accordance with their medium-term budgetary framework based on independent macroeconomic forecast together with their Stability Programmes, no later than 15 April.

    2. Draft budget laws for the general government shall be made public annually no later than 15 October together with the independent macroeconomic forecasts on which they are based.

    3. Budget laws for the general government shall be adopted and made public annually no later than 31 December.
Truly shocking stuff! How dare they try to impose a more transparent budgetary process on us.

An Empire? Nah, more like a club. One I'd rather be a member of.
