Default Judges asked to work 1 hour longer and shorter holidays

Shatter on collision course with judges over cuts to holidays - National News - Independent.ie

Good man Shatter, stick it to these guys, they work for us, we pay them
so we should tell them what to do
not the other way around, which has been the case for a long long time
its time someone stood up to these people

"Mr Shatter has written to the country's judiciary looking for a series of potential reforms -- including changes to the length of law terms and the "long vacation", which lasts through August and September"
Measures such as extending court sittings by an extra hour a day as well as shortening legal holidays were considered by some of the country's most senior judges."

The length of holidays has always seemed like a throwback to bygone days.

Court sitting hours are from 10.30am or 11am to 4pm, although some sittings extend beyond those hours while others conclude earlier.

I'm not sure whether "sticking it" to the judiciary is appropriate. Is Alan Shatter aware of how long politician's vacations are every year?

How many hours would a Judge be in Court in a week? Presumably he also needs time outside of Court to research papers and write judgments.

If Shatter is going to increase the # of Hours that Court is in session, then presumably he will also have to reduce the amount that Barristers are paid per hour, otherwise it'll just be a $$$$ bonanza for them.
