Default No wonder Europe loves us.....

Despite RTE being very quite about this, it seems that little Ireland has picked up the lions share of the tab for Europe's banking crisis.

    42% of Europe

Indeed Ireland has paid more than Germany, whose banks lent recklessly to private Irish businesses, to fill the hole left behind. It would seem that our government (past and present) have been extraordinarily generous with their tax payers money in selflessly filling the chasm left behind.

All Europe has to do is throw a few trinkets and awards at our leaders and tell them that they are the envy of Europe, a model for the rest of the world, blah, blah, and they'll continue to put the boot in to make Irish people more and more indebted to the countries whose banks should have lost out.

When you see headlines like this you need to make sure there's medication close by.
    The more things change....

As was said by a minority at the start of all this - burn the bondholders.

We are not Iceland. Bloody right we are not. They are out of their recession.

And are likely to re-elect the party that got them into the mess.

Spot on, but that's the Gombeen state since 1922. Fianna Gael and Fine Fail etc would happily slaughter their own first born just to prove they were ' good Europeans ' or in the interest of ' good Anglo Irish relations '. Irish independence with the Treaty in 1922 more ar$e.

Follow the money in this country and it ALWAYS goes back to state support, be it tax breaks, state contracts and the manipulation of markets for the gombeen class.

Well if Kenny doesn't use this figure to hammer home a deal then he's not worth a white dog shíte to us. It really puts things into context. I'm kind of stunned after reading that article.
