    Croke Park II - trade unions and workers’ rights in Ireland is tonight’s topic for discussion.

    Trade unions have described Government proposals for public service reform as “draconian” and warned the new talks process could break down at a very early stage.

    These involve:
    * pay cuts for some grades
    * increased working hours
    * the elimination of increments
    * a reduction in premium and overtime rates
    * reforms to supervision and
    * substitution payments for teachers.
    * They also involve greater flexibility in redeploying staff.

    Unions said although compulsory redundancies was not mentioned that Government signalled it wanted provision to offer exit packages to staff who did not opt for redeployment offers.

    Separately, Brendan Howlin, Minister for Public Expenditure and Reform is expected to seek Cabinet approval for targeted voluntary redundancy schemes under which:
    * 1,500 health staff
    * more than 500 in agriculture
    * 350 in education
    would leave.

    Tonight the panel tease what’s on the table and the likely way forward. Good discussion is expected on tonight’s show …

    Yes. Looks like he's getting to be a regular - maybe too regular - on the show. Where's Uncle Joe - haven't noticed him on #VIMB since he lost Clare Daly.

    I'd rather have a real union official like brendan ogle or mick o'reilly.

    The country is bankrupt.

    National debt now is somewhere around €110,000 per worker, and rising.

    And we can't devalue or inflate our way out of the mess.

    It's typicaly Iirsh that half the country still doesn't get it.

    More PS baiting and beating? Hardly worth watching with the some of the people that Vinnie has on these nights.

    One could write the script of the show. If one was arsed.
    Cry your hardest now, it opens the lungs, washes the countenance, exercises the eyes and softens down the temper. So cry away.
