    When one dies is unfortunate. When 2 die its worth a note, when 1000 die I will worry... a lot.

    Standard 2012-13 flu vaccine covers you...
    The 2012-2013 influenza vaccine is made from the following three viruses:
    an A/California/7/2009 (H1N1)pdm09-like virus;
    an A/Victoria/361/2011 (H3N2)-like virus;
    a B/Wisconsin/1/2010-like virus (from the B/Yamagata lineage of viruses).
    While the H1N1 virus is the same as the 2011-2012 recommendation, the recommended influenza H3N2 and B vaccine viruses are different from those recommended for the Northern Hemisphere for the 2011-2012 influenza vaccine.

    Perhaps.
    But who (not the WHO) knows what is brewing in the human, animal and avian interface and what may next appear?

    The last swine flu vaccine has left the WHO and national health agencies with somewhat damaged reputations regarding vaccines.
    My fear is that when the big one comes ( remember 1918) that the memory of 2009-2010 will tarnish the reputation of flu vaccines and the delay that results may prove disastrous.

    Usual seasonal flu kills about half a million people a year. That works out at about 1 per minute, every minute of every hour of every day.

    Why do 2 deaths from flu in China make headlines?
