I know that this weather forecast for next weekend was generated by a weather modelling program (graphic courtesy of the excellent meteotimes.net) and that our weather might not get quite so cold but it gives me the shivers all the shame.

Peter O Donnell's actual long range forecast for next weekend is

FRIDAY & OUTLOOK ... Sleet or snow possible in east winds, highs 2-4 C. This cold spell seems about 60% likely and later guidance could either deepen the cold or back off to more marginal temperatures (as we saw at one point last month), and I still feel this is not the main push of cold but possibly a brief forerunner, however it should be said that some guidance indicates fairly extensive cold by next weekend. Stay in touch.

Might kill off all those nasty bugs going around at the moment.

We can cope fairly well with temperatures near zero. It's when we get below -5 or so and pipes starting freezing in the ground. Then the misery factor really kicks in.
