Default Tragic news: Man from south killed in Omagh

Monaghan man assaulted twice before death - RT… News

    http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-northern-ireland-20880706

A teenager from the south has been beaten up in Omagh, Tyrone. He died shortly afterwards.

Comment: very sad news. Not clear if there was a sectarian element at this stage.

Very sad indeed. Unlikely to be sectarian as these sort of urban battles between rowdy revellers are all too common across the country. The PSNI in fact had warned of the dangers of these alcohol fuelled street attacks in the run up to xmas.

What a waste of a young life.

More needs to be done in changing attitudes to alcohol and in regulating alcohol sales and consumption.

    Minimum price for alcohol needed.

Yep. Scotland has the right idea. Though knowing FG and Lab they'll make an almighty balls of any attempts to bring in minimum pricing here.

Another thing we as a society needs to do is promote a more sensible attitude to drink and get rid of this culture of binge drinking. Personally I think supermarkets should be banned from selling booze.

    Jeez, R.I.P.

I love me drink, but wouldn't mind stricter laws and regulations.

I was in Asda Cookstown yesterday - went early to avoid rush - even at 10 AM there were people stocking up on cheap drink. No aubergines but gallons of booze.

The wares on offer at the cigarette kiosk are now hidden from sight, You can only buy 16 paracetamol as they are both "dangerous" - but it seems that 6 cases of strong lager, 3 bottles of Vodka, Gin and Whiskey (all at special prices) are not considered dangerous but regarded as staples.

    Awful news.

Perhaps the legalisation of weed would give people another option to 'relax'. More similar to Canada than Amsterdam though.

Sad news and very hard for the young man's family.
This was not sectarian as that end of Omagh is 100% CNR and it is where the redneck rebel culchies come to play in the bars and clubs of John Street, every weekend they knock hell out of each other and attack the police .
The price of drink has little to do with it ,there is a culture of guys who simply like to fight ,never changes.Hopefully CCTV and info will catch the guy(s) responsible

They need to bring back community justice to deal with these thugs.

    Poor lad.

    RIP.
