Default The plans liberals have for Ireland

I値l define here first my understanding of what Liberalism is. Liberalism, in particular modern Liberalism is the desire to have a system in place where all people are equally satisfied, for people basically to get what they want as much as possible. To achieve this it seeks to have equality and non-discrimination as the highest moral principles in society. It discounts tradition and accepted habits in favour of a scientific and technological view of dealing with human affairs. Its ambitions are universal, ie the nation-state is irrelevant to it, religion also, it has worldwide aspirations.

Many people speak of Political Correctness when what they should be mentioning is Liberalism. Political Correctness is only a mechanism of Liberalism to help achieve Liberalisms aims. Decrying P.C. itself is missing the point.

We have seen a gradual liberalisation of this country in the social sphere particularly since 1990 but the tendency towards Liberalism had being growing since at least the 1960s, possibly originating from the American University system or perhaps emerging just as an inevitable reaction of society to Modernity itself(despite counter evidence from East Asian countries where social Liberalism hasn稚 taken root to the same degree as in the West).

Anyway, at the moment the victory of Liberalism seems inevitable at a glance. Internationally, Social institutions once considered bastions of the traditional order have been taken over eg the Church of England. In public life statements asserting any form of discrimination or preference to particular groups are instant career enders for politicians. This is the reason there never has been a discussion on Immigration in the Dail. The only possible dark cloud is the financial crisis and its correspondent levels of unemployment and lack of funds for special programs.

I値l list below some of the aims of liberals, some are primary, some are secondary, the media and elite often switch on which ones they will concentrate on in a given year. They differ in each western country, so for example at the moment in the US its Gun Restriction and in France its removing the terms mother and father from official documentation (I hear anecdotally that gay marriage and adoption is being pushed heavily at present also). I値l only list liberal aims as applied to Ireland.

I don稚 aim to be comprehensive as there are so many aims of liberals but I値l list all the ones that I can remember at this point. Some of these are enacted also by right-liberals and are not exclusively the aims of left-liberals.

I thought it would be interesting to post a list and at a future point review to see how liberal goals and aspirations are proceeding. If you think important items are missing, inaccurate or misrepresented do comment.

Many of these things are about equality - economic, social, cultural - for all people. (Not the paedophilia one though!). Thats not liberalism thats republicanism.

Thats one of the items to be pushed by the constitutional convention. Its scope is to lower the age to 16. But that just an arbitrary number, why not 15? Why not 10? I guess 16 is more likely to be accepted for now.

I anticipate a lowering of the age of consent and then this being applied across all possible combinations of "relationship" so there wont be any difference in treatment on say a 14 year old boy having relations with a 18 year old girl to a 40 year old man having relations with a 14 year old boy. Later then this age could be lowered further.

‘Lower age of consent’ says gay rights campaigner

Yeah I hate liberals. They think that every foetus aborted and every act of sodomy is some sort of victory.
