BBC News - French 75% income tax struck down by constitutional council
The French Constitutional Court has struck down the 75% tax rate om top earners which was a main plank of Francois Hollande's election campaign. The court struck nit down on the basis that it failed to recognise "equality before public burdens" Some sanity it seems still exists in France. The piece above from the Beeb states clearly the court rejected any other method of calculating the tax. That not stopped the government from continuing to press ahead with the tax.............
But Prime Minister Jean-Marc Ayrault said the government would press ahead with the new tax rate.
"The government will propose a new system that conforms with the principles laid down by the decision of the Constitutional Council," he said.
