Default Unfashionable Gun Violence Story:California cop shoots unarmed man eleven times

California cop shoots unarmed man eleven times — RT

    From the story:
On June 8, 2011, the officer ordered Duenez to get out of his pickup truck, which was parked in the driveway of his house............Duenez was shot once in the head, eight times in his body and twice in his extremities. Four of these shots occurred while he was already on the ground. He died shortly thereafter from gunshot wounds to the chest and abdomen...............Moody claims he shot the victim because he saw Duenez holding a knife. An 8-inch knife with a 4-inch blade was later found in the bed of the truck, but Duenez was not carrying it at the time of the shooting. The footage also shows the victim’s foot getting stuck in the seatbelt while he was trying to exit the vehicle.
Here is the actual incident and I warn you all that it is not pretty.

    The result of this killing:
    DA: Shooting

The Manteca Police officer involved shooting death of Ernesto Duenez, Jr., 35, on June 8, 2011 has been declared as being “legally justified” by the San Joaquin County District Attorney’s Office.

My thoughts- if they do this when they have guns, what will they do when they get armed drones?

It looked like the suspect was reaching back into the car when he was trying to free his foot which was caught in the seatbelt. It's not a good idea to make such sudden movement, especially around paranoid US cops. The cop was loaded with adrenalin and had to make a split second decision. The police officer was told this suspect might have a throwing knife or a gun, hence why he says "drop the knife" at the start of the video.

This victim was a gang member who served three prison sentences including one for assault with a deadly weapon.

I didnt hear about this story before.
So I did a Google on "ernesto duenez"
The results include lots of YouTubes but very few hits from big news sources.
For something that happened in June 2011, this is suspicious.

The timing of this thread is interesting as the incident described here occurred in 2011. FYI 277 people, that's men, women & children, have died from gunshots in the U.S. since the Newtown massacre.

While I don't doubt something like happened I am a bit suspicious this hasn't been widely reported and only now emerging on Kremlin propaganda station Russia Today, part of the Russian government's media agenda to constantly vilify the west at every opportunity, just like with Pravda and TASS during the Cold War.

That's pretty deranged. The defences being given read very much like the shooting of this guy had been justified in advance.

The timing of the killing is not to be confused with the timing of the completion of the investigation and the subsequent clearing of the officer in question- this happened on Dec. 12th of this year.

And while it is not remarkable that Kremlin TV would pick up on the story as part of the Hammer America As Often As Possible campaign, it is surely remarkable that the Western press has been somewhat muted in its coverage of this event. It is not as if they don't like gun stories or anything.

As for the wider issue of gun control, this thread was not started to support or oppose gun ownership.

I am far more interested in the less reported issue of police brutality and abuses of power by law enforcement officers. Here are some other cases that really ought to make us ask some questions.

The police in the U.S. are now beyond the law,one man called 911 and asked for assistance, the police duly turned up and shot him to death because he was "behaving in an irate manner".In another instance an inexperienced nursing home warden summoned the police and the officers shot to death a resident in the home. Why,he was threatening them with a Bic pen (not kidding,it gets worse) he was in a wheel-chair and had one arm and one leg.
