Default Terse exchanges between Joe Higgins and Dick Spring at Oireachtas committee on Finance re the banks

Joe Higgins raised the ire of the Chair if the Dail Committee on Finance, as he questioned 2 "public interest" members on the board of AIB, one them being the former Labour leader Dick Spring.

Uncle Joe settling old scores which date back to Spring's "Clause 4" moment when he drummed Higgins and Clare Daly the out of the Labour Party.

The man is collecting €120,000 a year for sitting on his hole and a €1000 a day bonus if he gets off it for a couple of hours.
He deserves every bit of contempt and abuse going his way.

Who do you mean, Higgins or Spring?

When it comes to money, Spring is on Frankfurt's pay not Labours.

What always astonished me about the Labour Party was that it purged the Trotskyist "infiltrators" (Militant) and then allowed itself to be taken over by the Stalinists. (DL). They claimed that Militant would have destroyed the Labour Party.....they seem to have done a perfectly good job themselves, with DL figures to the fore in the omnishambles.

I think Joe Higgins would have enjoyed this little exchange!

And Spring seems to have sat on more boards than a carpenter!

    Spring, of course.
€120,000 pension. He's been collecting a huge pension since his mid/late forties.
€1000 per day for some work with the banks.

The poor man has a bad back so he rarely sits on his hole.

I don't think Spring will lose any sleep after that mild skirmish. There's plenty of ammo there to hit AIB, but Higgins seems more concerned with point scoring.
