    Default #VINB Thur 20/12/2012: Tonight Political Awards 2012

    …. a bit of fun for Christmas. This is on Thursday night.

    A different type of show tonight. It’s the the Winners of the Tonight Political Awards 2012.

    There are five categories:
    * Politician of the Year
    * Opposition Politician of the Year
    * Minister of the Year
    * Speech of the Year
    * Gaffe of the Year

    Adjudicators include journalist Alison O’Connor, John Drennan, Political Correspondent Sunday Independent, Theresa Reidy, Department of Government at University College Cork and Senan Moloney, Political Editor Irish Daily Mail.

    All award winners were independently selected by the adjudicators listed above. The Tonight programme team had no involvement in the selection process.

    So, off you go and try to second guess who the winners might be … and the prize for the most humorous speculation will be a special surprise Santa lollipop … delivered by the man himself.
    [Norman cannot participate as he knows who the winners are, but is sworn to secrecy by tv3. Mum‘s the word. ]

    Such a range of talented, principled politicians to choose from.

    However will they decide?

    Good idea Vinny. And thanks for the OP, Norman.

    Well, I will try and make a guess.

    Opposition Politician of the year is probably going to be Stephen Donnelly.

    Government politician of the year was Roisin Shortall, until Dicey and Gimmemore shafted her.

    Minister of the year : Probably Minister Coveney. He did nothing wrong. The others where all over the place.

    Speech of the year : Nothing coming to mind currently.

    Gaffe of the year : Rabbitte for admitting that his party will tell fibs to get elected.

    Other contenders would be Mick Wallace for proposing that the Dail goes on holidays because of pursuit of a lump of polystyrene for a month. In fact most of what Mick Wallace said, could fit into the gaffe category.

    Claire Daly for making statements supporting Mick Wallace.

    Lucinda with her "there are millions of jobs in this Treaty...of course I don't know what sectors they will be in" comment.
    Leo with his "Referendums aren't democratic".
    Noonan and the Feta Cheese remark.

    (eh...is it not a bit absurd having John Drennan on a committe to decide "gaffe of the year" given all the stupid things he uttered down the years ? ....just asking).
    Coveney's ambition is the be Ireland's next EU Commissar and Ireland will pay a price as he builds his CV to position himself sufficiently loyal to the nEU empire.

    He'll have to give Rabitte "sure isn't that what you do during a election" a special award!
    Micheal McGrath opposition politican award, Simon might get minister of the year, due to his honesty in not following the DoF false savings account.
    I've a feeling Leo minister and commentator for everything will get politican of the year .
