Default 'Food Porn' on TV - TV Chefs unhealthy meals get Red Light

Are TV Chefs contributing to the mass phenomenon of obesity? A recent UK study found that most recipes of TV chefs were more unhealthy than even ready-made supermarket meals

Jamie And Nigella Roasted In Nutrition Study - Yahoo! News UK

Should TV chefs be required to reveal their own BMI and also both the calorie count of each meal, and its cost?

How much is 'food porn' contributing to poor health and ill informed thinking about food...........

I think it's contributing very little, the fact is that it's mostly the tv dinners and micro crap that's causing the issues, also the large amounts of salt and sugars in the ready made stuff.

If someone is going to the bother of cooking scratch food on a regular basis you can surmise that they are eating healthier than the average person affected by the obesity problem.

You don't do a Nigella desert or a Jamie dinner every day, if you do, you have a lot of work to do.

I think that the demographics are totally different between the obesity problem and their audiences.

Wonder if it is a press release planted by the supermarkets?

I guess about less than one in a thousand people who watch 'food porn' actually cook any of the meals.....

Nevertheless each TV channel has a constant drone of programmes about cooking and preparation of food.....

.....its all about generating constant demand and keeping our imaginations saturated with ideas about food..... and not just any-old-food (i.e. steamed carrots).... but delicious creamy, rich, sweet, buttered, well seasoned (i.e. lots of salt), basted food....... Its hypnotic...... and incessant

If anything, I'd say cookery programmes are big audience draws precisely because most people don't actually cook. If it was something you did every day then the attractions of watching others do it on TV would be limited.

If you don't want to put on weight watching cookery shows, just stay up late and watch a half hour of those Zumba infommercials to burn off the calories,

Ok so according to your guess, where does the problem then lie? With the crap they decide to buy ready made or....the chefs who extoll the virtues of cooking your own food which you reckon they then proceed to ignore?

I take a lot of ideas from cookery shows, but I don't do an awful lot of cookery of their recipes directly, they come from different sources, internet, other people or my extensive cookery book collection. That said, a few of my books are tv inspired, such as my River Cottage books or my Heston Blumenthal book.
