In an interesting article from the NYT, Kosovo's US 'liberators' are now lining up for a slice of the Kosovo pie. Kosovo's telecommunications company (originally built and legally owned by Serbian people) is up for sale in which the lucky winner will receive a lucrative contract worth hundreds of millions. Among the bidders is Madeline Albright ex US Secretary of State under Clinton and her rival bidder, former NATO Supreme Commander, General Wesley Clark who led the illegal 78 day bombing of Yugoslavia back in 1999. Clark is also on the chair of a Canadian mining company which is seeking to explore and exploit Kosovo's rich coal and lignite deposits. The Serbian Government has launched legal challenges in the face of repeated attempts by these vulture capitalists to strip Kosovo of its infrastructure, property that the Serbian people are the legal and rightful owners.
In 1917, Lenin published his work, Imperialism, the Highest State of Capitalism, in which he described the function of finance capital in generating profits from imperial colonialism as the final stage of capitalist development to ensure greater profits. Lenin's work was a response and a critique of the actions of Western Imperialism in particularly the Scramble for Africa and the First World War. His work is as relevant today in 2012 as it was when first written in 1917. The so called liberation of Kosovo (and its subsequent, illegal and forceful detachment from Serbia) was the final culmination by the Western imperialists and vulture capitalists of the destruction of socialist and secular Yugoslavia, a state which stood in the way of EU and NATO expansion into Central and Southern Europe in which the spoils of war when to the victors. Well the despicable actions of Albright and Clark has just confirmed that the 'liberation' of Kosovo was not about 'saving' the Kosovars from the nasty evil Serbs but lining their own pockets and that of the local ex KLA elites.
