    Respite care grant cuts 'modest', says Rabbitte | Irish Examiner

    Pat Rabbitte has today refused to deal with SF calls for a reversal of the cut to respite care grants, which he has described as "modest". The cut was 20%.

    Earlier in the Dail he had commented that “Everybody had to contribute something”.

    The 325 euro cut is one of the most regressive cuts of the budget.

    The Carers association said:
    The role of the family carer, while rewarding can also prove to be very stressful, which may take its toll on the physical and emotional well-being of the carer.

    Latest News | Sinn Féin

    He said;

    “The annual respite care grant for children and others with severe disabilities is cut by €325. This cut comes at a time when respite services are being steadily cut-back across the country due to the government imposed cuts to health service funding. This money is invaluable for the financial and indeed mental well-being of family carers.

    Absolutely disgraceful, even Brian Hayes is up in arms about it, hard to believe he has more of a social conscience than Mr. Rabbitte the self called "Socialist"

    So a 20% cut in this grant is "savage", but the 30% cuts to politicians pay and expenses over the last 3 years is just spare change, and they need to be cut waaaaay more.

    Why can people never put things in perspective?

    Puke making. Attacking the very weakest of our citizens.

    Our carers should all drop their charges off at their nearest hospital and cost the state billions in revenge.

    There will be a protest tomorrow outside the Dail at noon. Many carers and disabled people, due to the nature of their roles, cannot attend but everyone is welcome to show their solidarity.
