    Default RTE=Radio Television ENGLAND

English accent ads on every day

English soaps like Eastenders turning our kids into Essex boys & girls

And an obsession with reporting every development in the British Royal family. And with english soccer over Irish sports

Why are RTE now so english centric? Weren't they set up to be an IRISH broadcasting service?

The only reason I can think for RTE's contempt for Ireland, its people, language (virtually no Irish language content) and religion is that their presenters and producers want jobs at the BBC.

The link between RTE and BBC is now dangerous. Particularly given BBC's failure over Jimmy Saville.

Not that Pat Rabbitte will do anything. Given his dislike of nationalism he's probably delighted that RTE are turning our young people english.

Zoo: this is not an OP, it's a rant. There is an interesting OP to be written on the level of importer tripe, from both the UK and the US, shown on Irish television (not just RTE), backed up with data and the like, but this isn't it.

There is a huge hunger in Ireland for things British!

Soap operas, red-tops, Women's magazines, British high street shops, Catalogue shopping, British Sport, soccer, racing, celebritity culture, etc.

If RTE do not screen it they will simply tune in to a British Channel and RTE loses advertising revenue.

Hell they would elect William and Kate as President if they ran!

That is because RTE is failing totally to offer high quality alternative Irish programming.

    We can do it.

It's just that RTE don't want us to have our own national identity.

It suits RTE stickie agenda to demean/belittle/play down our own strengths values and traditions as inferior and play up those of England

Given its near monopoly on broadcasting this inevitably shapes public appetites.

But British media - aside from some really excellent stuff from BBC - is now sadly low grade cheap trashy junk food.

TG4 produces much higher quality stuff but has a tiny budget.

We should have a real Irish broadcaster.

Send the overpaid presenters in RTE over to the Beeb where they'll be happy.

If only we could be given a choice concerning that barbaric obscenity that is the Pravda compulsory levy.
Coveney's ambition is the be Ireland's next EU Commissar and Ireland will pay a price as he builds his CV to position himself sufficiently loyal to the nEU empire.
