Thread: Budget 2012 - No defections likely?

Default Budget 2012 - No defections likely?

With both parties having cordoned off their red-line issues from Wednesday's speech, the political contentiousness of the content is likely to be much diminished. Cuts to home help, child benefits and pensioners' allowance will be unpalatable to backbenchers, but are they likely to cause the loss of any dissident deputies in the ensuing votes?
    My political compass:
    Economic Left/Right: -5.38
    Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: -5.64

Think it's a fair chance that one or two Labour deputies will jump ship.

That has been muted in the media alright...

It will be interesting to see if there is increased pressure on Gilmore because of it.... depends on how many jump I suppose.

The cranks are already overboard - Broughan, Nutty Nulty (Labour TD for about 20 mins), Shortall, Penrose - so it's difficult to see who would be willing to jump at this stage

Labour have performed poorly in the lead up to the budget. They made a big thing of the USC increase for people on over €100K.... but when it came down to it they were fobbed off with a "mansion tax"

Sounds great though "mansion tax" .... That's sticking it to them !

I've heard of one provincial backbencher who looks likely. We'll just have to wait.

Political cowardice will stop many from jumping ship.

FG will offload Reilly to try to steady the ship. Today's Irish Mail has started to rock the boat. It seems there was more than one tent afloat in Clonmel.
