Default The Dutch are Scrapping their Blasphemy Law. Should we not do the same?

The Dutch are scrapping their blasphemy law on the basis that such a law is no longer relevant in the 21st Century. I am in 100% agreement with them over this.

Dutch authorities have decided to approve a motion abandoning a law under which it is a crime to insult God.A majority of parties in parliament said the blasphemy law was no longer relevant in the 21st Century.
The legislation, introduced in the 1930s, has not been invoked in the last half century.
BBC News - Dutch approve move to scrap blasphemy law

    Bizarrely, however
However, it still remains illegal under Dutch law to be disrespectful to police officers or to insult Queen Beatrix, the country's monarch.
Still more work to do perhaps?

What do P.ie members think of the move taken by the Dutch? Should we not be following suite by scrapping our one?
If you continue to elect idiots in elections, don't be surprised when the result is an idiotic government.

Of course we should. It is fairly likely we'll need another referendum to do so though.

Does this question even need to be asked?

Until such a time when every strangle-hold the church has on our State is removed, it cannot be said that we are ruled legitimately. Removing the law will be a start.

Are you referring to the work of Eamon or of Dermot?

We should never have introduced it in the first instance. Blasphemy is fine as a sin, for those who believe in such things, but there is no reason whatsoever for it being written into the laws of secular states such as our own.

While we're at it, can we remove the Preamble from Bunreacht na hÉireann?

Totally agree. That nonsense in the constitution needs to be removed asap.
