Default Some protesters are more equal than others

Which could well be found if you read between the lines of Jack O'Connor's quotes to the media, following the anti-austerity march in Dublin.

O’Connor said that a number of protesters carrying Sinn Féin and United Left Alliance banners and posters tried to “besmirch” the demonstration, describing it as a “deeply sinister trend which has developed over the recent past and bears all the hall marks of fascism”.
This is the word that makes O'Connor looks foolish, and potentially hypocritical. I have to wonder if he thinks that if you're a member of an establishment left group like SIPTU and the Labour party, that ultimately gives you a bigger right to take to the streets?

People have be going to these marches with SF and Socialist banners for years. Why does he have a problem about it now?

Because they don't fund the Ivory Tower people like O'Connor are holed up in?

Are there any pics of the banners/posters he's talking about?

One said 'Shame on Labour', which I imagine he didn't like.

Do you have link or the full quote to give a bit of context? These things are all naturally very relevant

Social Partnership fatally compromised the unions.
All great truths begin as blasphemies!

SIPTU PRESIDENT JACK O’Connor has said that attempts were made to prevent the head of the Irish Congress of Trade Unions Eugene McGlone from speaking at today’s anti-austerity march.
Ah. Now there's the thing. Shoulda been included in your OP. No fan of Jack O'Connor but you should have given some background Colin and the fact that you didn't makes you look like you have an agenda.

Ah, but we don't know for certain if the ICTU guy was going to be stopped, or not. We know what O'Connor thinks of a section of the protesters there today, though.

Not really. If O'Connor, as a TU leader, respects the right of people to protest that also should extend to those protesting against people in receipt of huge salaries such as him. Nor should he label them fascist because it isn't.
